Homework Policy
As discussed on the Helping My Student At Home page, reading is the most important thing you can do with and for your child to ensure academic success. I know families are busy and time is precious. I do not believe that homework should interfere with family time or create stressful evenings.
The children will bring home a Homework Folder daily. Inside is a homework/behavior sheet. The daily homework assignment to read for 15 minutes will be listed. There will aslo be a check mark noting if your child Made their Day. I will also include any remiders of upcoming events on the Homework Sheet. Please have a family member read to or with your child and then sign the folder. Have your child place the Homework Folder in his/her backpack to return to school the next day. (Give this job to your children to help them learn to follow directions and be responsible for their belongings. It is a great beginning skill that they will need thoughout their school career.)
Once at school the next day, your child will take the Homework Folder out of his/her backpack and place it in the basket for me. I put the folders in order and will call on anyone without a folder to check their backpacks for the folder. I do not go into backpacks to look for folders.
I then check the folders to see if homework was completed and sign the folder. This folder will be our daily connection. Please feel free to write any notes to me on the sheet or send them in the folder. If you write a note to me requesting an item, it may take a day for me to get it to you. I teach the entire 3 hours the children are in class. I do not have a break time to run to the office to make a copy or secure items. My time to do that is after the students leave, so sometimes if I don't have it in the room, I will take care of it after school and send it home the next day. I then put the Homework aFolder in your child's mailbox for them to take home to you.
I have made special homework folders for the children. If a folder gets lost or ruined, you can send in any folder for your child to use from then on.
